As I wrote last week, in the wake of the brutal attacks on Paris by the Islamic State (ISIS), the United States needs to re-think its military strategy regarding ISIS.
But we also need to re-think our immigration policies, starting with President Obama, who actually said recently that Syrian refugees are no more of a threat than “tourists.”
Except foreign tourists need passports, and go through a screening process before they can enter western nations. And most tourists are regular citizens, from stable countries, who live normal lives that include vacationing in foreign lands to have fun and broaden their horizons.
In contrast, most immigrants seeking admittance to Western European nations and America come from unstable, war-ravaged nations such as Syria, much of which is controlled by ISIS, but also from Pakistan, Libya, and Iraq, all of which have sizable Muslim populations that include significant numbers of potential Islamic jihadists. Thus those refugees should be subjected to even stricter screening processes in which it is clearly determined who is genuine and who isn’t, with those who aren’t denied admittance.
Instead, the vast majority of Western European nations have welcomed these refugees with open arms. Germany in particular opened its borders wide, which many think is because of past guilt over its racial policies during WWII — which is ironic given that any German racial guilt is due to its treatment of Jews during WWII, yet most of the refugees it is admitting have a poor opinion of Jews.
And even in those countries wary about this wave of refugees, the screening process has been inefficient, and the vast majority of refugees are bypassing it.
Additionally, many of these refugees are young Muslim men. Whatever you think of profiling, polls suggest that 15 – 20 percent of young Muslim males support jihad, and since the number of refugees entering Europe is expected to exceed 1 million, some 100 – 150,000 potential jihadists could be among them.
Meanwhile, President Obama has announced that America will accept 200,000 refugees, most all Muslims, and he will veto any attempts to stop him. As for background checks on 200,000 refugees, FBI Director James Comey says the sheer numbers make that impossible, as does the fact that most them will have no documentation at all. Thus there is no doubt significant numbers of refuges will be jihad-supporting Muslim males, many of them from of ISIS.
This is not to say that there aren’t many refugees that deserve our help — there are, and our history is one of welcoming the downtrodden. But it is to say that eight of every 10 Americans polled think admitting refugees from war-ravaged nations such as Syria without a thorough vetting process endangers themselves, their families and America.
