I previously wrote that Hillary Clinton should not be president because of her stonewalling and deceit over her private email server, to say nothing of her long history of false statements and shady dealings while secretary of State over accepting “donations” to the Clinton Foundation from foreign governments and powerful business interests obviously looking for favors from the U.S. government.
This is an update. Since I last wrote, we have learned that the number of highly classified, even “Top Secret” emails received and sent on her private server are now in the hundreds (with more to come). That is a violation of federal law, but so is deleting more than 33,000 emails from her private server because federal law states that all emails an employee of the federal government generates while working are the property of the federal government, so in deleting them she was, in effect, destroying government property. Also, most interesting, in the emails she turned over to the Justice Department, there is a five-month gap in which no emails, none at all, were generated. What are the odds that the secretary of State, our nation’s ambassador to the world, would produce no emails for five months? And, you guessed it, two of those months were the months immediately following the attack on the U.S. embassy in Benghazi, Libya, and the death of four Americans, including our ambassador to Libya.
We now also know that despite being told by President Obama himself that she could not hire her friend and her husband’s former adviser, Sydney Blumenthal — who has a very checkered past — to work in the State Department when she was its head, she hired him to work for the Clinton Foundation and regularly sent him emails, including highly classified ones, regarding State Department business. This despite the fact that Blumenthal had no national security clearance, nor, obviously, the encryption protections of a government email server. The likelihood that many of those emails were hacked by foreign powers is very high — many experts say it unquestionably happened — meaning some of the nation’s most sensitive diplomatic and national security secrets were read by unfriendly governments and dangerous people.
All of this is a dereliction of duty in addition to a violation of federal law, which is why her poll approval ratings are so bad that Bernie Sanders, an outright Socialist, is now a real threat to her nomination chances and Joe Biden is being encouraged to run.
But it could be worse. Actually it would be worse if it was anyone but Hillary (and Bill) Clinton. Clear violations of federal law are usually prosecuted and the offender is usually punished with heavy fines, and even time in a federal prison.
