Thinking Out Loud: “Racist” America?

 

You can’t make this stuff up. Our black attorney general, Eric Holder, remains in office despite being held in contempt of Congress — the only attorney general in American history with that distinction — for repeatedly refusing to comply with congressional demands for information related to the “Fast and Furious” gun-running scandal, which was run, or more accurately botched (a U.S. border patrol agent was killed by a gun sold to Mexican drug lords as part of “Fast and Furious”), by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, which reports to Holder’s Justice Department.

Recently Holder was interviewed by Pierre Thomas, who is also black, and is the senior justice correspondent for ABC News. As part of ABC’s news team coverage of the September 11 attacks; the tragic shootings in Tucson, AZ; and the killing of Osama Bin Laden, Thomas has won the prestigious Peabody Award, the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award, two Emmys, and two Edward R. Murrow awards. Individually, Thomas was awarded the Pinnacle Award by the Houston Association of Black Journalists in 2011, and in 2102 he was named Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists.

In their interview, Thomas asked Holder several questions regarding the president of the United States, Barack Obama, who is also black. President Obama was elected in 2008, decisively defeating Republican John McCain, despite the fact that the white population in America in 2008 was around 200 million in a nation of approximately 300 million at that time.

President Obama was also handily re-elected in 2012, again despite the fact that the white population in America was a decisive majority, and the fact that his first four years in the White House had been marked by anemic economic growth, unemployment in the 8 percent range, and the largest federal debt ever accumulated during a presidential term in office. As for the president’s foreign policy, several polls showed that America was disliked around the globe, but especially in the Middle East, even more than when George W. Bush was president.

And not incidentally, one reason President Obama won re-election, despite a poor economy and a feckless foreign policy, was his overwhelming support among the mainstream media, which is also overwhelmingly white.

In their interview, Thomas asked Holder about the criticism recently leveled at the president, given the IRS and Veterans Affairs Administration scandals, the Benghazi tragedy, the mess in Syria, the implosion of Iraq, the disastrous roll-out of Obamacare, illegal immigration and the border crisis, and his repeated violations of his constitutional duty to enforce duly enacted laws, including Obamacare.

In response, the black attorney general told the award-winning black newsman that criticism of the twice-elected black president was predominantly due to racism.
