Thinking Out Loud: Voting for a One-Party Nation

If you believe it doesn’t matter whether or not the people who vote in elections in this country are citizens of this country, then prepare yourself for a one-party political system and nation, because if non-citizens are allowed to vote, virtually all of them will vote for Democrats, and the Democratic Party will have gained a voting bloc that will keep it in power for centuries.

Which is why Democrats are leading the charge to eliminate the requirement that people who vote must prove, through a photo I.D. or other confirmation of citizenship, that they are U.S. citizens.

President Obama’s Justice Department, for example, recently sued the states of Kansas and Arizona over their laws requiring proof of citizenship, including requiring photo I.D., before entering the voting booth.

Meanwhile, our leading Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, has openly stated that the common-sense requirement that you produce some form of voter I.D. before voting is a form of discrimination. In a speech given in early June, Clinton said that such voter-identification requirements prove, “Republicans are systematically and deliberately trying to stop millions of American citizens from voting.” Actually, they are deliberately trying to stop million of non-U.S. citizens from voting.

And to the Democrats’ charge that requiring proof of citizenship is an undue burden on a core Democratic constituency, the poor, even if it was a burden — and it is actually quite easy to obtain proof of citizenship (provided you’re a citizen) — it should still be a necessary precondition for voting.

Hillary also called for restoring parts of the Voting Rights Act that the Supreme Court overwhelmingly struck down, including out-of-precinct voting, in which people can vote in precincts where they don’t live, which would lead to chaos and greatly expand voter fraud.

And then there is Mrs. Clinton’s home state of New York, where Democrats recently announced their “Engaging Immigrant New York City” campaign, which would eliminate photo-I.D. requirements for voting and allow non-U.S. citizens to vote, provided they are in this country legally, although you can be sure that at some point even that distinction will be blurred, and non-citizens who are in America illegally — we commonly call them illegal aliens — will also get the vote. Small wonder this campaign also calls for voter-education materials, including ballot initiatives, to be published in several foreign languages, including Arabic, Bengali, Urdu, and Haitian Creole, even though a main requirement of U.S. citizenship is fluency in English.

The endgame for the Democrats is simple. Those who believe the government must be their protector and the provider of all of their needs — illegal aliens being at the head of that long line — are sure to vote for the political party that agrees with them.
